How are negative thoughts showing up in your life?
They likely exist without your awareness.
I was on the phone this week with someone I haven’t talked to in 20 years.
He and I both studied in Norway for a study abroad program for our respective MBAs.
Although he lives several thousand miles away in Austria, I have reached out to him several times over the last two decades with little response.
Then last week, to my surprise I received an email from him.
When we were on our Google Meet call today, I mentioned how excited I was to hear from him, and he said, “I’m happy to hear that. I wasn’t sure.”
“Why wouldn’t I be?!”
He continued to share with me, “I thought what if she doesn’t reply. What if she’s mad at me for not replying? What if I don’t hear back from her?”
He paused and continued, “But then I thought I’m going to email her anyway.”
I’m so grateful he did. We picked up as though no time has passed at all (do you have friends you can do that with?!).
We chatted for close to two hours (we had a lot to catch up on) and vow to chat again before the end of the year. I’ll make sure we do 😊
As the new year begins, there will be times throughout the year (or maybe each week) that you start second guessing or doubting. You’ll think: Will it work out? There are others more qualified than me, so I likely won’t get it. Will they even reply? Nothing will probably come of it.
Do it anyway.
Don’t listen to the negative thoughts, the self-doubt or uncertainty.
You are skilled. You are smart. You are qualified. You have the talent. You are resourceful.
You can figure it out. You will get it. You are worthy.
Anytime a negative thought enters your head, take action, because negative thoughts and action can’t coexist at the same time.
If you take action, the negative thought will dissipate.
So, take action through the negative thoughts. You just might find that the person emails you back, you get the promotion, you create a friendship, or you get the client or the date.
That second guessing, self-doubt and uncertainty has no place in your life! This is a new year, and a new way of embracing uncertainty.
It’s called believing in yourself.
Yes! You got THIS!
What are you hesitant or scared to do?
It begins now. Let’s go!
