How Do You React?

I’m sure you’ve heard the famous quote, life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it. Unpredictable things happen in life. That’s why it’s called life. It never turns out the way we thought or planned.

Maybe you’ve wanted something so badly, a career, promotion, husband, family, and it occurred at the inopportune time. Then you started second-guessing whether you really want it, because it didn’t happen when you thought it should. You aren’t in the right place for it now.

But that’s exactly what happens in life. Things don’t come our way when we necessarily want them. They come when we least expect it or when things don’t seem quite right. So, how are you going to react? Is it a blessing or a curse? Are you sad or happy?

It happened. Now is the time to deal with it. Now is the time to say, It may not have happened when or how I planned, thought or wanted, but it happened. I got it! What am I going to do next?

It’s all in your attitude and perspective. When you change those, your whole world changes. You will realize that the situation will be exactly what you make it to be. If you think it’s sad, disappointing, and disheartening. Then that’s exactly what it will be. If you know it’s positive, a blessing, and rewarding, then that’s exactly what it will be. Change your attitude and perspective, and the experience will change.

You may not be able to control when things happen or how they occur, but you can change how you look at them. Think of how different your life will be when you choose to make up your mind to see the good and positive in everything. How are you going to change your attitude and perspective today?

What Is a Life Coach?

What is a life coach? You might have heard the term, but you don’t know exactly how this person can help you in your life. Just like in sports, a coach is there to guide you. He/She will become your partner in this journey we call life. Here are five ways a life coach will help you.

  1. Guidance—A life coach will provide you guidance in your life, but she won’t make you do it. Whatever you want to change, she can’t do the work for you. Whether you want to find your passion, discover yourself, or face your fears, she will guide you with tools and techniques to have a better future.
  2. Vision—Do you feel lost and confused? You will not accomplish it, until you envision it. Creating a vision will give you attainable goals. Once you reach each milestone, you will be able to review your success, while establishing the life you desire.
  3. Accountability—It’s easy to blame others for things that don’t go right in our lives. A life coach will hold you accountable to your goals, decisions, and future. She wants you to succeed just as much as you want to. She will tell you the truth, being the devil and the angel that rests on your shoulders, because she will not allow you to fall back on excuses and into your old patterns.
  4. Motivation—Your coach will motivate you to achieve beyond what you think might be possible. She will push you when you think you “can’t,” because she knows you can do more than you have even imagined. She will pick you up, brush you off, and send you on your way with more self-confidence than you’ve ever had. She will help you reach new heights and fly higher and longer than ever before.
  5. Acceptance—You may not like yourself for who you are, flaws and all, but your life coach will. The more honest you are with her, the more she can help you. No matter what you reveal, she will be there. She will not judge, but listen, understand, and accept. That’s what we all want…to be accepted for who we are.

A life coach is irreplaceable. Your friends and family are too close to the situation to be able to truly give you what you need. A life coach will provide you with tools to get your life on track. She will be your partner, walking with you every step of the way. She wants you to succeed, reach your goals, and be who you are meant to be. She will help you live your greatest life.

5 Steps to Success

On the road to success, you will have your share of failures. What can you do to ensure your successes outweigh your failures?
1. Don’t listen to naysayers. There will be plenty of people who will tell you it’s too hard or it can’t be done. Don’t pay attention to them. It can be done. Look at all the successes in the world (J.K Rowling, Oprah, or your local hero) to know you can achieve it.
2. Fail, fail, and fail again. You have to be willing to fail in order to succeed. Michael Jordan said in his Nike commercial, he has failed many times again and again, and that’s why he has succeeded. Learn the lesson from a failure and use it to your advantage next time.
3. Failure is a mindset not a person. Things didn’t work out the way you thought or planned. You, as a person, have not failed. It doesn’t make you who you are or define you. Get back up. Don’t allow a failed venture, marriage, or experience keep you down. Change your mindset about failure, and you will change your outlook about life.
4. Risk something. You don’t have to risk everything, but in order to achieve success, you have to be willing to risk something. You know what’s behind you and where you have been. You won’t know what lies ahead, unless you leap. So, take a chance, be brave, and sail.
5. Don’t ever give up. If you want something bad enough, you will find a way to make it happen. When you give up, you not only give up on the achievement, you give up on yourself. Don’t ever give up on yourself.

The road to success has its ups and downs. Don’t allow unexpected obstacles keep you from achieving your greatness! The lessons you learn from failing will catapult you to success. You are destined for GREATNESS!

5 Steps to Conquer a Hurdle

Whether you are packing to move, finding your passion, or managing your life, just the thought of all you have to do can be overwhelming. How can you succeed when it seems like there is too much to do and too much of the unknown? Here are five simple steps to guide you.

1. Get control of your mental faculties. Don’t allow your mind to lose control. Your thoughts begin to snowball, and then you start believing you can’t do it. Stay positive and know you can achieve greatness!
2. Break down the big picture into small steps. Write down the steps and when you need to achieve each one by. These will be more attainable than looking at the massive goal you need to accomplish. Steps are more manageable.
3. Start with the first step. This may sound obvious, but don’t allow yourself to jump in anywhere. You want to take the process in order, because this allows you to see actual progress.
4. Work toward your goals each day. You are either working forward or moving backward. Even if you only have five minutes a day, do something to contribute to your goals.
5. Remain focused. Don’t allow negative thoughts enter your mind. If you aren’t achieving progress in the allotted time, recognize you are moving forward. Change your timeline to be more realistic.

Before you know it, you will look back and see you conquered the hurdle you initially thought was too big or you couldn’t do. Always remain positive and don’t just believe, know you can and will do anything. You are destined for GREATNESS!

It’s the Life in Your Years

A few of my friends have birthdays around this time of the year, and it got me to thinking. As we grow older, do we celebrate our birthdays like we did as a child? Maybe we don’t get a bunch of toys or have slumber parties anymore, but do we really celebrate our birthdays? Or do they come and go just like any other day except with a few, “Happy birthdays” from others?

I have a rule for myself….no working on my birthday. No matter my age, I leave this day for me. I don’t have to do anything earth shattering, but going to lunch, shopping, or a spa is all I need. It’s one day out of the year I know I get to do exactly what I want to do. I don’t understand why people treat their birthdays as any other day. Age is only a number, and it’s relative. I can and still do anything! Yet I can probably do it better now, with more experience and wisdom, than I could at 12.

Okay, so maybe not everyone can get off from work on her birthday, but shouldn’t you decide that this day is special? It’s special, because you are. It is a day to enjoy your uniqueness and all that you offer to this world. It seems people stop caring so much about their birthdays and even their friends’ birthdays.

What happened to the times of getting your friends together for slumber parties? I did this a few years ago and loved it! My girlfriends came over. After we went on a scavenger hunt and played running charades, we had pizza, cake, and ice cream. Then we woke up and had cinnamon rolls, before everyone left. It’s a night I will remember, and it wasn’t even for a 25th or 30th birthday. It was just because it was my birthday, and I wanted to.

You don’t need any more reason than that to celebrate your birthday. Last year, I went roller skating for my day. I hadn’t been since I was about 12, but once I got the skates on, it was as though I had just skated yesterday. I was rocking out to the 80’s music (just like back then, although back then it was the popular music) as I was skating. Getting my groove on, as I pushed my skates faster and faster, fearless on them as though I was actually 12 again.

“It’s not the years in your life. It’s the life in your years.” So what are you doing to celebrate each year? How do you revel each day? Look back on the year, and see what has changed, occurred, and improved. Celebrate another year of you! Make it a point to treat each birthday like you were 12. Don’t you know, thirties are the new 12!
